Keep Your Car Prepared

Be Ready to Stay Cool While Waiting for a Tow This Summer

You just never know when your car is going to break down, and depending on the time of year and the outdoor temperature at that time, your wait for a tow could be quite uncomfortable. That's why it's important to be ready for a tow at any time.

With summer approaching, now is the time to prepare for a tow that could happen in the heat of the day. If your car should break down at the peak of the summer, following these tips will help you stay cool and comfortable while you wait for the tow.

Keep Water in the Trunk

Keep water in your trunk and mark your calendar to replace it on a regular basis. In addition to the fact that the water will help you stay comfortable while waiting for your tow, having water on hand is an important part of being safe while driving around town and in places away from your own community. Should your car break down, you'll need water to stay hydrated while waiting for the tow truck to arrive.

Pull Over into the Shade

Make an effort to pull the vehicle into the shade if possible. This may not be a realistic goal if you're driving on a highway or freeway when your car breaks down. Once you've pulled over to the side of the road, if your car isn't sitting in shade, put a window tinter up on the inside of your windshield to prevent the light of the sun from super heating the car.

Wet Your Hair

Unless you're rationing your water while waiting for the tow, use the water in your trunk to wet your hair. This will help you stay cool and comfortable, and will chill your skin if a breeze should blow.

Hang Wet Rags over the Air Vents

If your car will still turn on and the air vents will blow air into the cab, the air coming out of the vents may be hot and oppressive. Use the water from your trunk to dampen rags or spare articles of clothing, then hang those rags over the vents to cool the air as it blows into your car.

Roll Down Windows, Open Doors

Improving air circulation in the car will help you to stay cool. Open your doors and windows as you wait for the towing service.

Keep the Number for a Reliable Local Tow Service On Hand

Have the number for a reliable towing company like Fredericktown Marathon on hand, either written down on a piece of paper or plugged into your cell phone. Calling a company with a reputation for excellence will help ensure that your tow will arrive quickly and efficiently, so you won't have to be uncomfortable in your car for very long.
